Rostelecom on Yamal set video surveillance in the ethnographic museum behind a polar circle

2020: Installation of a video surveillance system

Rostelecom announced on November 9, 2020 the organization of a video surveillance system in a natural and ethnographic complex of the settlement of Gornoknyazevsk of the Cisural region of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area. The museum under the open sky — the hallmark of the northern region and one of its popular tourist objects. The recreated traditional settlement of the northern people is located on the right river bank Ob in 15 kilometers from Salekhard, behind a polar circle. In its territory for November, 2020 more than 400 unique exhibits which are under permanent video surveillance now are located — Rostelecom mounted 30 smart digital cameras on all perimeter of a complex.

Surveillance cameras — security protection for different objects: from own apartments and house adjoining territories to such historic centers, significant for the region, as a natural and ethnographic complex in the settlement of Gornoknyazevsk. The Rostelecom company has a wide experience of technical solution of the most different tasks in this area: our specialists individually project a system for each object including for ethnic dwellings. As well as in a case with the museum, the cameras are mounted on the street and in premises. In the future it is easy to expand functionality of devices. For example, to add with the module of video analytics and to use for face recognition on an input and an exit — the director of the Yamal-Nenets branch PJSC Rostelecom Alexander Oboltin noted.

The infrastructure created for project implementation in the ethnic settlement includes the digital video cameras, the server hardware and communication channels providing video surveillance. Smart devices write the accurate picture at any climatic conditions and transfer it to the receiver which watches safety of objects of cultural heritage in the territory of the museum in real time. Three cameras are mounted in administrative buildings, 27 more devices — on roofs of chum, the automobile parking and support along the fence protecting the territory of a complex.

Our natural and ethnographic complex — an object unique. To reproduce the traditional settlement of the northern people, a lot of time and forces was spent. Now our task is heritage to save. For November, 2020 in the museum under the open sky there takes place major repair after which the center of original traditions will become even more cognitive and interesting to visitors. And digital cameras will help us to keep this place clean and an order. It is very important. I think that the video surveillance system makes a big contribution to history logging not only our district, but also the country in general — the director of the District house of crafts Svetlana Zakharevich commented.

After the end of reconstruction in a natural and ethnographic complex installation of surveillance cameras will be continued. In total in the territory of the museum 56 digital devices will work: 22 in chum and 34 outside.
