On November 11, 2020 to SOGAU of CIT was announced backup system implementation by Akronis Infozashchity

According to the company, in SOGAU of CIT based on own DPC will unroll a virtualization cluster in which more than 30 industry information systems are based. They ensure functioning of all departments and key public institutions of the Smolensk region — health care, education, municipal management, transport, etc. Besides, in the same cluster the servers providing office-work and also servers of executive authorities and public institutions are located.

For November, 2020 data – not just a basis for decision making practically at any level. All system of municipal and public administration is based on them, thanks to them all services for rendering public services work. Therefore permanent ensuring safety and data availability becomes the most important task of any authority. Andrey Gildenkov, the director of SOGAU of CIT explained

Best of all about the scale of infrastructure which is based in a cluster of virtualization and is supported by the Center, tell digits. These are about 250 virtual machines and several thousands of workstations of users. All information which contains in these storages is subject to obligatory backup, and the total amount of data reaches 200 Tbyte.

Requirements to an uninterrupted information access are obvious: in a cluster of virtualization systems which should be available 24/7 work, so and the recovery time of data in case of an incident in information infrastructure cannot exceed several minutes. That attention which we give to a backup system and recovery is also defined by it. Konstantin Yarcheev, the head of department of the systems of virtualization and RPO SOGAU "CIT" told

From the moment of creation of a data processing center in it the solution for data backup from one of foreign suppliers was used. Need for its replacement was caused by transition to use of solutions of the Russian origin. Preparation for transition was begun in 2017 when specialists of the Center carried out the analysis of available solutions.

We aimed to select means of backup which would not concede to that which we used earlier. "Akronis Zashchita Dannykh" showed good results during pilot use in our information environment. Moreover, it was the only domestic solution which is capable to work with identical efficiency as in physical, and virtual environments that for us for November, 2020 especially relevant. Specialists of the Center conducted transition on "Akronis Zashchita Dannykh" independently. At the same time migration gradually was performed: backup for each information system was consistently transferred to other solution. The consultant of department of the systems of virtualization and RPO SOGAU "CIT" Egor Platokhin notes that in some cases specialists of the Center needed technical support service of Akronis ITProtect company which allowed to overcome the difficulties connected with settings of a system and its deployment in the specific environment of virtualization.

Even during testing we noted intuitive simplicity "Akronis Zashchita Dannykh". Settings of the solution and management are implemented so that specialists even of a wide profile which still did not face in the work with this solution can cope with them. The help of a support service of the supplier was required to us only for the solution of the specific questions connected with a virtualization environment configuration. Since the beginning of use "Akronis Zashchita Dannykh" in the infrastructure serviced by SOGAU CIT she coped with a number of local incidents which demanded data recovery from backup copies. Konstantin Yarcheev notes that the solution proved to be in an extreme situation. Accident elimination was carried out as fast as possible, destruction or damage of information managed to be avoided, and availability of information systems was provided in full and in the shortest possible time.

Means of backup belongs to that category of solutions which it would not be desirable to test "in case". We hope that in our infrastructure there will be no incidents which will demand data recovery, whether it be hardware accidents or cyber attacks. But, even in "peace conditions" "Akronis Zashchita Dannykh" provides us confidence that the crucial information necessary for a full-fledged and effective work of all regional administration is reliably protected. In the nearest future SOGAU of CIT is necessary transfer of the DPC in specially built room and solving of tasks, connected with migration on the updated equipment. Together with the information systems "moving" it is necessary also to a backup system which works based on "Akronis Zashchita Dannykh".
