2020: Creation of radiation resistant solid-state relays

Specialists of JSC Rossiyskiye kosmicheskiye sistemy holding (RKS, is included into Roskosmos State corporation) completed the work on creation of radiation resistant solid-state relays. On November 16, 2020 reported about it in RKS. Their application will allow to increase considerably reliability and to increase service life of onboard equipment at decrease in its mass-dimensional indicators.

Solid-state relays are the dedicated circuit from eight crystals of the power transistors performing function of electronic "keys" which manage giving of input voltage on satellite devices. Crystals are located on a substrate from nitride of aluminum of own development with zarashchenny transitional openings and connected among themselves according to the serial-to-parallel scheme. Such connection allows to switch with guarantee tension even in case of failure of several "keys" as a result of external influences and degradation of components. It provides the high level of fault tolerance.

Creation of such relays – the next step in ensuring reliability of the space equipment. The device is executed in the hermetic radiation resistant package only 400 mm2 that is 2.5 times less than the best import 4 times less domestic the analogs implementing the similar scheme of inclusion. At the same time the cost of our product is several times lower than any world analogs due to application of a unique assembly technique of the body on the basis of a payment from aluminum nitride.

The feature of a product – lack of hinged connection, case constructions and connecting external outputs, and installation is made on technology of surface mount on a payment. The topology of a payment allowed to locate most compactly the transistors and controls located in analogs out of the relay on one payment in the body.

Further it is going to reduce twice the product size due to use of special technology of installation of power transistors at each other which is in the final stage of development in RKS. Also application of the crystals - "keys" developed by holding is planned.
