In November, 2020 the Volvo Cars company announced creation of the simulator of the mixed reality, intended for testing of cars. In a system three main technologies are used: glasses of virtual reality Varjo, the game Unity engine and a Teslasuit VR suit developed by the Belarusian company VRTek.
The simulator can be used as indoors, and on the road. In the first case it includes installation with a mobile seat of the driver, a wheel with a tactile feedback and points of virtual reality. The "driver" who sat down in a chair during such test sees the virtual road and obstacles arising on it and monitors work of the systems of the car. In this case the simulator "draws" interior of the ispytuyemy machine over salon real, and developers prepare a set of different scenarios in advance: for example, I will meet with a wild animal for check of the emergency brake system.
Having put on an advanced tactile complete suit for Teslasuit body, testers of the Volvo simulator can physically feel small reproduction of forces which can arise at accident, without testing at the same time real risk. The suit also allows engineers of Volvo to check these reactions, studying as muscles, the level of a stress and heart rate react in critical situations and to apply the gained knowledge during creation of the security systems of the next generation directed to prevention and mitigation of risky situations.
Testers are exposed to the imagined functions of active security and the help to the driver, perspective user interfaces of autonomous driving, future models of cars and many other scenarios. It can be used on real roads with test tracks or in testing laboratory, at the same time each scenario is completely configured. The opening opportunities literally are boundless, says Volvo.[1] |
