CIA signed the cloud contract for tens of billions with Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Oracle and IBM

At the end of November, 2020 the Central Intelligence Agency signed the contract for creation of the commercial cloud enterprise with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Google, Oracle and IBM. The cloud contract C2E will be estimated at tens of billions of dollars within the next 15 years. Within the contract each company will be able to compete for accomplishment of specific tasks at the different levels within CIA and sixteen more agencies of prospecting community.

We are glad to cooperation with several industry partners who received the contract for creation of the commercial cloud enterprise (C2E) for prospecting community, and we look forward an opportunity to test new cloud technologies, - the representative of CIA Nicole de Haay reported.

Since 2013 requirements of CIA for cloud computing are satisfied using Amazon Web Services technologies, at the same time the supplier of cloud services also services the most part of other agencies relating to CIA. Within the contract C2E CIA will independently select the best cloud provider for specific working objectives. CIA will also select cloud providers for other intelligence agencies.

Such approach cardinally differs from the strategy of the U.S. Department of Defense which decided to give the infrastructure in a charge of the unique company. Microsoft Azure had an opportunity to implement the JEDI project in October, 2019, but AWS tries to dispute legality of this contract under the pretext of political intervention.
