Cusip Global Services sale for $1.9 billion

FactSet Research Systems, a financial data provider, will buy S&P's Cusip Global Services for $1.9 billion to advance its open data strategy.

S&P is selling Cusip and other companies to obtain regulatory approval for the $39 billion takeover of IHS Markit Ltd. To reduce competition, IHS also agreed to sell its basic chemistry business to News Corp. for $295 million.

Cusip is the exclusive provider of CUSIP and CINS identifiers worldwide and acts as the official numbering agency for ISIN identifiers in the United States.

FactSet is a competitor to Bloomberg LP, the parent company of Bloomberg News.

The transaction will be paid by the buyers' own funds. By doing so, News Corp will be able to double its database on energy, commodities and renewable energy. More details here.
