Replacement of user phones with swing numbers

On December 21, 2020, it became known that Yandex.Ads replaced the real telephone numbers of private users in all ads with swing ones.

As explained, a swing number is a special "virtual" merchant phone number that appears in the listing. It is used to forward an incoming call to a valid number and is needed to protect the user from calls and messages from spammers and scammers. It also helps to protect the seller from intruders who, knowing the real phone number, can find and use the personal data of its owner for their own purposes.

Usually online sites hide real contacts of sellers only in the most expensive categories - real estate and cars. In Yandex.Ads, swing numbers automatically close phones in all publications of private sellers, and for users this feature is free.

Special algorithms handling of messages chat in the service distinguish phishing links and suspicious activity and warn users of potential danger. The built-in messenger hides such messages and blocks third-party links. Accounts whose messages are regularly hidden are blocked.

The notification also appears when the user receives a message with a phone number. The service does not recommend communicating with buyers or sellers on third-party sites, for example, in instant messengers, where it is not possible to warn the user of suspicious actions or block a phishing link.

For greater security of the process of buying and selling goods, in addition to a swing number and monitoring chat with algorithms, an activity indicator in Yandex is used. The longer and more active the user interacts with different services of the company, the higher this indicator. It appears in each seller listing, and you can see the buyer's score in a chat with it.

Launch of Yandex.Adverts service

On December 1, 2020, Yandex announced the launch of its own service to place ads for the purchase, sale and exchange of goods. Competitor "Avito" was called "Yandex.Adverts."

As noted in Yandex, for the use of the service it is not necessary to specify a phone number. Communication between the seller and the buyer can occur in the messenger, which does not need to be installed additionally: everyone who uses the Yandex search has it. In the future, the messenger will check the links exchanged between the buyer and the seller, and warn of suspicious actions, the company said.

One of the features of the service that developers pay attention to - it will be possible to track activity on Yandex with the seller and buyer. The key figure will be calculated automatically and help you decide on the transaction.

The longer a person uses Yandex, the more actively he interacts with various services, the higher the indicator. New accounts do not have an icon with an activity indicator. There are no restrictions on the number of ads placed. Ads can be accompanied by personal notes, for example, "The seller is ready to meet on the weekend."
