2020: Announcement insulin syringe handle Medtronic InPen

At the beginning of December, 2020 as a result of strategic acquisition of Companion Medical the Medtronic company released smart insulin the syringe handle for patients with diabetes by which it is necessary to do several injections in day.

Smart the syringe handle InPen it is connected with the system of continuous monitoring of Guardian Connect glucose. The integrated data go to the application for the smartphone provided to Medtronic which allows to trace insulin doses along with indications of level of sugar in blood in real time. InPen can be used within a year at injections of insulin of short action. The company intends to add a feature for introduction of insulin of long action in the future.

Earlier the Companion application was registrated by the entered amount of insulin and allowed to calculate bolyusny doses at meal time. Representatives of Medtronic said that the application will display further information from other compatible monitoring systems of glucose, but with a delay.

We managed to integrate successfully new smart the syringe handle and the old device for monitoring of glucose in only two months after acquisition of Companion Medical company, - the president of diabetic division of Medtronic Sean Salmon noted. - Now InPen can be integrated with data on glucose level in real time that reflects the broad picture and allows users to enter the correct dose of insulin in due time.

Medtronic announced acquisition of Companion Medical in August, 2020. Analysts called this transaction "a courageous step" which can generate the companies $200 million additional revenue over time though Companion received only $11 million on sales of the products in 2019. Financial conditions of the sdleki are not disclosed.[1]
