2020: Announcement of Delta SmartNode
On December 7, 2020 the Delta company announced ready data processing centers of SmartNode which provide - deployment of nodes of peripheral calculation for 5G networks and Internet of Things.
According to the company, the data processing method in networks changes. In process of development of Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and 5G networks more and more data will be processed closer to their source. The infrastructure necessary for reduction of these distances should be flexible, modular and provide a possibility of fast deployment on a set of platforms on the network periphery. The suitable solution for this purpose are the ready multifunction data processing centers (DPC).
Dawn of a cloud era matched emergence of hyper scalable DPCs. A large number of data was moved from local physical storages of the companies to a cloud. The efficiency of cooling and an opportunity to evenly distribute load of numerous servers belongs to opportunities of the physical location of large-scale storage and computing resources in one place. However not each application can involve as much as possible the potential because of restrictions of capacity and response time in the Internet.
Peripheral calculations and Internet of Things will not turn hyper scalable DPCs into a low technology. Despite a tendency to the distributed processing and data storage, this equipment for peripheral calculations it is designed to add a cloud, but not to replace it. The idea is in processing as it is possible the most part of the become data array most close to their source.
Limiting distance and the number of switchings between devices and cloud resources which service them, the equipment for peripheral calculation allows to reduce waiting time. With its help influence of restrictions of network transmission capacity within which traditional cloud solutions should function also decreases and they provide additional computing resources. Already the set of technologies, such as autonomous driving, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) for which peripheral infrastructure will be effective develops.
In VR applications the entering data, such as movements of hands, light refraction and signals from control devices, should be processed with a proper speed to provide reflection of reality. At the same time for creation virtual (or added) the reality for the user needs a set of processes of rendering. At such loading connected with information processing it is difficult to place necessary computing powers in the device. The solution of this problem is separate processing at which a part of calculations or rendering happens in a cloud to preliminary filtering on the periphery, but not in the VR or AR device.
In process of distribution of the standard of mobile communication of a 5G preparation for sharp increase in data streams is around the world conducted. There will be so many data that it will become impossible to process them all in the centralized DPCs. For this reason mobile operators will be the first who will begin large-scale deployment of peripheral data processing centers. For example, some mobile networks locate only several wireless network connections all over the country. Data can make very long way before the IP address is at least appropriated to them. The waiting time increased for this reason can limit many processes for which maintenance standard 5G is developed.
Transfer of some RAN functions to DPC in those areas where services 5G with a short latent period are available can be necessary for future work of telecommunication infrastructure. Such merge to mobile peripheral calculations can lead to creation of more unified approach to architecture of a 5G. Even in the conditions of enhanced capabilities of peripheral calculations more optical fiber all the same will be required.
In addition to mobile operators, other industries will also invest in peripheral calculations. For example, in the industry for December, 2020 there is a break which is expressed in emergence of the smart plants, industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and use of Big Data. In most cases on the existing industrial facilities there is no opportunity to place such number of the IT equipment which would ensure functioning of all applications which become more and more necessary for maintenance of work of the enterprises. The most part of the factory areas is not suitable for installation of servers, sensitive to dust, and a power equipment. Cloud solutions can be incapable to provide midget delays at data transmission, necessary in industrial conditions.
The peripheral calculations performed by means of modular DPCs can begin method to cope with information loading which differently would be very heavy. Instead of construction of the whole DPC in other place it is possible to install quickly a container, for example, on the parking near the plant. Health care, municipal services, transport, smart houses and the smart cities — the industries in which use of peripheral calculations based on ready DPCs also makes sense. In most cases optimization of application performance will be the main argument for benefit of making decision on investment. However many will also develop peripheral resources to seize the analytics opportunities in real time or stream data.
Peripheral DPCs are used for caching and data collection in points between users and larger data processing centers. Often it is required to move apart borders, having transferred them is closer to users who are in different places of the extensive geographical region. Therefore network operators and the enterprises need infrastructure, such as modular DPCs of Delta SmartNode Tier II and Tier III.
As well as in case of other capital investments, the choice of the supplier depends on a set of factors. It is always more effective to work with the company having a stable financial position, especially at the time of economic uncertainty. Ideally it should be the international organization with diversified business which can deliver and service the necessary number of DPC practically in every spot on the globe. It is also preferable that examination of the supplier was not limited to development of DPC. For example, in the SmartNode system from Delta company power electronics, the cooling system, the UPS and technologies of infrastructure management of DPC of production Delta is used thanks to what the turnkey integrated solution is proposed completely.
The solutions SmartNode of Delta company are available in five modifications of different power: 33 kWh, 35 kWh, 50 kWh, 70 kWh and 90 kWh. These options are enough for accomplishment of the different scenario of peripheral calculations without damage of performance and availability of the ready-made solution. In DPC of SmartNode power distribution is integrated into the UPS for economy of the place and decrease in operating costs.
Data processing centers of SmartNode maintain equipment load to 1420 kg of a rack. However for ensuring maximum efficiency and reliability it is necessary to hold the IT equipment within its operating range of temperatures. Therefore these components are developed for use in conditions from –15 °C to +48 °C. The cooling system is rather powerful to prevent decrease in characteristics to temperature of 39 °C. To provide uninterrupted cooling, condensers are surrounded with the protection cover preventing vandalism and damage during transportation. One more factor providing reliability of SmartNode is rugged construction and a limit of fire resistance of EI60.
