"M of Video Eldorado" migrated from Oracle JDK to Russian Java execution environment

The M of Video Eldorado group transferred Java system from the environment of execution Java Oracle JDK on the Russian environment of execution Liberica JDK and selected technical support from her developer – BellSoft. BellSoft reported about it to TAdviser on December 21, 2020.

According to BellSoft, an IT landscape "M. Video Eldorado" includes a broad spectrum of systems on Java: from modern applications on Java 14 to well proved systems in commercial operation written on earlier versions of Java. Liberica JDK is used, for example, by the microservice platform "M of Video Eldorado" for the services providing correct calculation of order cost of the buyer, the personalized recommendations. Based on containers back-end services of the website and mobile application of M.Video work with Liberica JDK.

In "M." told Video Eldorado TAdviser that actively invest in new solutions, such as microservice architecture, and are going to transfer to the next few years on it more than a half of the IT systems. Also in the company reported TAdviser that the partner was selected, proceeding from a complex and technical, and cost parameters. Among technical characteristics on Liberica JDK which defined the choice – optimization for work in a cloud, support of microservice architecture, work on different platforms, a possibility of transfer of the advanced functions from new versions of JDK on the target Wednesday used "by M. The technical support which within partnership is provided by BellSoft includes timely updates, including in the field of security which can be backported in different versions of JDK and also implementation of progressive methods of development. Among them – optimization of the environment for work in a cloud, support of microservice architecture, including a microcontainer with Alpine Linux and Liberica JDK onboard, possibilities of transfer of new features from JDK 11 and more senior versions in the target JDK used in the company.

In "M. of Video Eldorado" say that with transition to Liberica JDK Java development speed at them grew by 15%

By the time of migration on Liberica JDK development on Oracle JDK in the companies of the M of Video Eldorado group was conducted by about 10 years. BellSoft also told TAdviser that in 2020 the volume of loadings of the environment of execution of Java Liberica JDK increased several times. It was preceded by significant change of model of licensing of Java in 2019: Oracle ceased to provide free Java builds of SE for commercial use. Java SE can be used free of charge only in development process of software or for personal use, testing, creation of prototypes and demonstration of applications now. Thus, security updates are not available publicly any more. Application of Java SE in the industrial systems requires a commercial subscription now.
