Rostelecom begins transition to the Russian server OS

On December 22, 2020 Rostelecom announced transition to the Russian server operating system of "Red OS". The telecommunication operator signed the license agreement with the Red Soft company developing this platform.

Rostelecom in the internal systems will use "Red OS" in the Server configuration. Transition to new OS will begin in 2021 and will come to the end until the end of the 2023rd.

As reported in the press release, testing for compatibility of "Red OS" with a server framework of Rostelecom was successfully held in October, 2020. Positive results confirmed correctness of work Russian program on servers of the telecom operator.

The IT key component of infrastructure of Rostelecom are server operating systems — the senior vice president of Rostelecom for information technologies Kirill Menshov says, commenting on the transaction with Red Softom. — Use of domestic OS — a strategic step in the direction of import substitution not only in the company, but also in relation to our customers. It is important to many companies to use domestic technologies which ensure data security and level the risks connected with the sanctions policy of the foreign states.

According to the deputy CEO of Red Soft company Rustam Rustamov, transfer of server group of the provider of digital services, largest in Russia, and services on the domestic operating system is an example of the fact that import substitution of software can and should be implemented according to the existing regulations. The Russian IT market is capable to meet demand from customers, and the Red Softa and Rostelecom joint project confirms it, he added.

Financial and other conditions of cooperation of the company do not open.[1]
