On December 25, 2020 the company ABB reported that Norske Skog Skogn selected ABB as the supplier of the complex digital platform at the newspaper factory of century Norway. The management system for production processes ABB Ability of Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for pulp-and-paper industries will be put into operation by April, 2021, at the same time ABB will provide support of the enterprise at the beginning of its way to the fields of improvisation and smart operating activities within five years.
According to the company, locating for December, 2020 three paper machines, having performance of 520,000 tons per year, the Norske Skog Skogn company is one of the largest producers of newsprint in Europe. Production capacities on production of newsprint are reduced across the whole Europe (several machines for production of newsprint are stopped) therefore Norske Skog Skogn aims to provide requirement of the polygraphic industry, using digitalization for production optimization.
Delivery of AVV includes the multilevel management of technology data (Process Data Management) which is a part of applications of the ABB Ability Plant and Enterprise level for pulp and paper industry, a MES system and the subsequent full integration with levels of automation and resource management of the enterprise. It will provide complete end-to-end data management both in horizontal direction, and in vertical direction that will allow to unroll additional digital applications and will help to create modern factory. The complete delivery scope covers modules of production planning (Production Planning), data management about quality (Quality Data Management), production managements (Production Management), managements of a warehouse (Warehouse Management), decision supports (Decision Support), the magazine (Diary) and overall effectiveness of the equipment (Overall Equipment Effectiveness, OEE).
As a result of project implementation the digital platform will provide transparency of processes and also will improve planning, quality management and production. ABB's Diary provides instruments of collecting, structuring and data analysis which help producers to manage workflows and to transfer data between changes. In combination with the module OEE of factory receive the mechanism for the analysis of optimization of efficiency and can use the obtained detailed information for determination of areas of optimization and arrangement of priorities.
All modules ABB Ability Manufacturing Execution System are controlled through idle time in use the web interface to which it is possible to get access from any point and which allows to transfer information between normal separate data, as a result liquidating this separation.
