EU admits mistake promise to Ukraine to join NATO

The West made a number of mistakes in relations with Russia, including the promise of NATO membership to Ukraine, the head of EU diplomacy Borrell said on March 11, 2022.

"I am ready to admit that we have made a number of mistakes and that we have lost the possibility of rapprochement between Russia and the West. There are moments that we could do better, there are things that we proposed and then could not realize, such as the promise that Ukraine and Georgia will become part of NATO... I think it's a mistake to make promises that you can't
realize.'

2021: US sanctions on Ukrainian citizens and companies for opposing Biden in presidential elections

In January 2021, the authorities USA announced the introduction of sanctions against "related" Russia citizens and companies of Ukraine, which, according to Washington, disseminated false information against one of the candidates on the eve of the 2020 presidential election.

Seven individuals and four organizations are part of an "international influence group associated with the Russian Federation," which through the media and social networks promoted allegedly "false and reasonable accusations of corruption and money laundering in Ukraine" against the new US President Biden.

This group, as noted in the statement, is associated with Verkhovna Rada deputy Andrei Derkach, whom the US Treasury calls a "Russian agent." Personal sanctions for interference in elections were introduced against Derkach in September 2020.

"Russian disinformation campaigns against American citizens are a threat to our democracy. The United States will continue to resolutely protect the inviolability of our electoral system and electoral process, "said Treasury Minister Stephen Mnuchin.

The sanctions lists with blocking all assets and a ban on any operations with US citizens and companies, in particular, included former prosecutor Konstantin Kulik, Rada deputy Oleksander Dubinsky, former deputy Alexander Onishchenko and ex-employee of the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States Andriy Telizhenko.

Kulik conducted criminal cases against the gas company Burisma, on the board of directors of which Hunter Biden was the son of Joe Biden.

Deputy Alexander Dubinsky, in turn, accused Burisma of stealing money from the Ukrainian budget and withdrawing funds offshore. He also explicitly stated that Hunter Biden was being rewarded for his services with criminally obtained money. According to Dubinsky, they were "stolen from citizens," and not received in the form of the company's revenue.

In October 2020, two weeks before the US presidential election, accusations against the Biden family began to appear in the American press. The New York Post published a correspondence between the head of Burisma Vadim Pozharsky and Hunter Biden, where Pozharsky allegedly asks for a meeting with Biden the elder, who at that time served as vice president in the administration of US President Barack Obama.

US President Donald Trump, in turn, openly said that Biden Jr. could use his father for lobbying work, since then the vice president was in charge of US policy towards Ukraine.
