2021: Charge of plunder of the electric power for 16 million rubles when mining bitcoins
As it became known on January 12, 2021, in Kalmykia opened criminal case on plunder of the electric power for 16 million rubles when mining bitcoins.
According to Interfax with reference to prosecutor's office of the Republic of Kalmykia, the director of The Concrete Goods Plant — Constructions LLC and its colleague — the head of the regional state enterprise "DSK" organized mining farms in the territory of one of the companies which power supply networks used for mining.
As a result of PJSC IDGC of the South - the damage for the amount over 16 million rubles was caused to Kalmenergo. For compensation of damage law enforcement authorities seized the withdrawn equipment and other property of defendants with a total cost more than 25 million rubles.
Defendants in the case are accused of commission of the crime provided by points, "and" and Parts 2 of Article 165 of the Criminal code of the Russian Federation ("The causing especially major property damage to the owner by deception in the absence of signs of plunder made by organized group"). In addition, the director of "DSK" is accused of commission of the crime provided by Part 1 of Article 286 of UK ("Abuse of office").
Rapid growth of cost of bitcoin attracts miners and induces them to use more resources for production of cryptocurrency. On this background the number of crimes grows. Earlier, the Sarov city court of the Nizhny Novgorod Region sentenced the employee of the All-Russian Research Institute of experimental physics (VNIIEF) Andrey Rybkin to three years and three months of prison and a fine of 200 thousand rubles for cryptocurrency mining in a workplace.
On January 8, 2021 the rate of bitcoin for the first time overcame a mark of $41 thousand, however later it decreased. By January 12 6 p.m. Moscow time the cost of one bitcoin is about $33 thousand.[1]
