2021: Development of integrated decoder of command-software and telemetry information

Specialists of the Russian Space Systems Holding (RKS, part of the Roscosmos State Corporation), as part of the work on creating unified on-board equipment for promising spacecraft, developed an integrated decoder of command-program and telemetry information. This was reported to the RCS on January 27, 2021. The universal device will ensure high quality and stability of delivery of control commands from the ground segment to the on-board spacecraft complex and transfer of information on the state of the satellite to Earth.

The development combines the functions of various on-board processing units of command-program and telemetry information in one chip. The device is part of and improves the reliability of the command and measurement system, which controls the spacecraft, relays current navigation parameters and aggregates telemetry information.

The decoder is the embodiment of a number of high-tech developments in PCC. It is based on a chip with built-in algorithms for noise-resistant coding and decoding of command-program, telemetry information and the function of reserving the execution of critical time programs, guaranteeing protection against unexpected failures of satellite control equipment,
said Vitaly Kraskov, deputy head of the department for the creation of on-board equipment of command and measurement systems

This development is the next step of the RCC in creating an integrated on-board complex of command and information systems, combining command and measurement and computing functions, processing telemetry information, providing secure control and redundancy of critical functions of the on-board control complex.

Integration solutions and unification of equipment in the near future will allow putting on stream the production of reliable on-board systems, reducing the cost and significantly accelerating the production of satellites, scaling onboard equipment for a specific type of spacecraft - from small communications satellites and scientific applications to complex multifunctional vehicles. Promising developments of the RCC in this direction will ensure the durability and stability of satellite groups for various purposes, which will entail an increase in the quality of services in the field of navigation, digital television, telephony and the Internet.
