Evraz creates an internal 5G network for work in mines

On February 9, 2021 it became known of construction of an internal 5G network in metallurgical company "Evraz". This project is implemented by MTS, using the equipment of Ericsson.

Under the terms of the contract, MTS will build the selected technology network a LTE/5G-ready in the Sheregeshskaya mine in the Kemerovo region. It will be integrated with the existing communication systems and mine IT infrastructures.

At the first stage the network will work in LTE standard 900 with a possibility of "seamless" transition to standard 5G without significant changes in a solution architecture. The solution Ericsson Dedicated Network — a package core of network of the operator class Ericsson Enterprise Core and a radio subsystem of Ericsson Radio System Micro will act as a technology basis of network.

The selected 5G network in Evraz is created for program implementation of digital transformation which at the first stage provides creation of a system of a voice radio communication, video broadcasting, the abnormal notification, scheduling, positioning and off-line control by the mining equipment — handling machines and mine locomotives.

Deployment of a wireless network with its integration with IT systems of the enterprise will improve the organization of production processes, will provide more effective interaction between different services and the most important — will increase safety of work of people in mines and will significantly reduce risks of emergence of non-staff situations for what the systems of an uninterrupted radio communication with personnel and positioning of the self-propelled equipment throughout excavations are created — the director of the department of sales of digital solutions of MTS Georgy Dzhabiyev noted.

By words the director of the Mining Assets segment of the Siberia division of Evraz company of Vladimir Melnichenko, implementation of modern digital technologies will increase the level of industrial security and efficiency of the equipment and in the long term will allow the enterprise to increase the volume of extraction of crude ore.^[1]
