2021: Announcement of Microsoft Intelligent Speakers - columns for decrypting and translating online meetings in real time

In early March 2021, Microsoft introduced columns for decoding and translating online meetings in real time. The company claims that Intelligent Speakers can recognize the voices of up to ten different people during a meeting at Microsoft Teams.

Microsoft Teams is designed for a wide range of events, from small internal meetings to large virtual workshops up to 1000 people. The platform supports features such as custom registration, advanced presentation options, the ability to disable chat and video for participants, and post-event reporting.

Smart Speakers, created in collaboration with the EPOS acoustic system manufacturer and conference equipment manufacturer Yealink, can now join the Microsoft Teams meeting. The gadget will be able to determine up to 10 different voices and create transcripts of virtual meetings with the definition of each participant in this meeting. In addition, the device will help participants in the virtual conference follow the speakers and translate their speech if necessary.

According to Microsoft, smart speakers will help participants quickly navigate who said what during the meeting, as well as simplify communication between specialists from different countries. At the same time, users fully control these functions and can disable attribution at any time, which allows to ensure the confidentiality and security of those gathered.

Microsoft first demonstrated the concept of this device in 2018, and although smart columns were developed before the pandemic, they can help people during forced self-isolation. Microsoft has not yet announced the prices or release date of the device.[1]
