2021: Plant Closure Message

In early March 2021, it became known about the closure of Optron-Stavropol JSC, the only plant in Russia that produces power semiconductors for aviation. On the impending termination of the enterprise on April 1, its employees warned the government of the Stavropol Territory and its governor Vladimir Vladimirov.

The closure of the plant will lead to the cessation of the production of components for the aviation industry and the risk of stopping the production of aircraft generators for the needs of the Ministry of Defense and Civil Aviation. The workers of the plant, who do not care about the fate of this enterprise, are concerned about the current situation and are asking for the comprehensive assistance of the government of the Stavropol Territory and the governor in solving this problem, the letter says.

The representative of JSC Optron-Stavropol in a conversation with Vedomosti called the reason for the closure of the plant - the lack of orders for the products he produces. In 2020, the volume of contracts of the enterprise amounted to 94 million rubles, and in 2021 it was reduced four times.

Shareholders are not able to subsidize us in such volumes. Therefore, in February, all employees received a notification of the upcoming reduction, the source said.

According to him, almost all jobs except 15 will be eliminated at the enterprise - these employees will ship the devices available in the finished product warehouse until the end of 2021.

Experts interviewed by the publication noticed that they warned about the risk of closing the plant five years ago. This is a natural process due to the reduction of state defense orders. The only option for the plant was to switch to civilian products, they say.

Director of the Association of Russian Electronics Developers and Manufacturers (ARPE) Ivan Pokrovsky noted that production at Optron-Stavropol JSC is unique for Russia. It will take time and financial investments for another manufacturer to master the nomenclature of the Stavropol plant in production, he said.^[1][2]
