2021: Start of construction of a landfill for drones, attracting 500 million rubles

In early March 2021, it became known about the upcoming start of the construction of the first drone training ground in Russia. The project was called "Polygon ALS," its development is carried out by the company "International Aeronautical Systems" (MANS).

The landfill will open on the basis of the Orlovka laboratory in the Tver region, accredited by the Federal Air Transport Agency for relevant tests, and can subsequently be replicated to other regions. 500 million rubles are invested in the project. Part of the funds was invested by the Project Support Fund of the National Technology Initiative (STI), and the rest was financed by the MANS concern.

As Vedomosti writes with reference to Anton Tretyak, head of the ALS Landfill project in the issue dated March 5, 2021, in Russia in the next five years at least 40 unmanned aircraft systems (ALS) will need certification.

According to Tretyak, the landfill has two main tasks:

  • remove the technological barrier, since certification facilities used for large aircraft are not suitable for small aircraft;
  • to form proposals for changing the regulatory framework.

Along with the flight will be created a digital platform. On it, ALS will be checked for compliance with airworthiness standards, as well as tests of still under development devices, control systems and other equipment.

Measurements of trajectory parameters will be carried out using special navigation receivers that will transmit data through the satellite, as well as optical means. For the convenience of developers, a "flying laboratory" will be used at the training ground: it will accompany the test vehicle, visually record its condition, current weather conditions at its location.

Work on the creation of the landfill is planned to be completed by 2021.[1]
