2021: Fire of the data center in Strasbourg

On March 10, 2021 data center OVH Strasbourg , a fire broke out in the company, as a result of which the equipment failed, and popular sites turned off.

The fire destroyed 25 European servers of the online game in the genre of survival simulator Rust from the British developer Facepunch Studios. According to the developers, the data of players on burnt servers is irretrievably lost.

In addition, due to the fire, the sites of Strasbourg Airport, the National Center for Arts and Culture, Georges Pompidou, official pages of a number of French cities, etc. became inaccessible. The accident affected German, Italian, Spanish, Polish and Turkish sites. According to preliminary data, about 3.6 million were disconnected due to a fire.

Also problems with access to services, Google YouTube etc. were observed in. In Russia Roskomnadzor noted that the failure was caused not by actions to slow down work, Twitter which the department began to take on March 10, but by a fire in the OVH data center.

As a result of the fire, the SBG2 data center was completely destroyed, and the SBG1 building was partially destroyed. Power supply was turned off in all four data centers that are part of the SBG complex.

According to OVH spokesman Octave Klaba, the company will take one to two weeks to restore power systems in the surviving data centers and debug data exchange.

The cause of the fire by March 11, 2021 is not called. It is noted that more than 100 firefighters fought the fire for more than six hours.[1]
