Acronis Data Protection ensures the security of the IT infrastructure of Petrovsky College. This was announced on March 17, 2021 by the company "Akronis-Infopravita."

Most of the infrastructure at Petrovsky College consists of physical and virtual servers. At the same time, applications run on different operating systems (Windows and Linux), as well as on different virtualization platforms (VMware and KVM ).

We use our own computing power: a pool of blades combined into a single infrastructure using Fibre Channel technology. A heterogeneous infrastructure has been deployed on this base, which includes both physical and virtual servers operating under various operating systems, "says Denis Falenkov, head of the center for informatization of education at St. Petersburg State Educational Institution Petrovsky College.

Critical for Petrovsky College are data stored on a file server, data from 1C information systems, Microsoft Exchange servers. In addition, the college develops several specialized sites using different platforms and operating systems. In total, about 10 TB of data stored in the college infrastructure is subject to mandatory backup.

Not every backup system confidently works with Fibre Channel, "said Denis Falenkov. - For us support of this technology was an indispensable requirement. In addition, the "omnivorousness" of the solution, which was supposed to work stably with different operating systems, played a large role.

Another requirement for a decision was its Russian origin. Petrovsky College is a budgetary institution of education, which should use in its development infrastructure included in the register of domestic software.

We deployed the system on our own, in the design of the work we took into account the complexity and heterogeneity of the infrastructure of the educational institution, "explains Denis Falenkov. - "Acronis Data Protection" was a new solution for us, and we first sought to familiarize ourselves with all the capabilities and features of working in different operating environments. The problem of organizing backup in a Fibre Channel architecture required special attention - it was important for us to maintain the speed of the local data network during backup. In addition, we needed to ensure that the infrastructure was available for training and administration during the implementation process.

As of March 2021, Akronis Data Protection agents are installed on ten physical and fifty virtual servers in the infrastructure of Petrovsky College. A separate server is dedicated to storing backups of up to 15 TB of data. These are data that ensures the operation of several college websites that work on different platforms and different operating systems, college file server information, Microsoft Exchange and 1C data.

For backup, Petrovsky College has developed a special provision that regulates the process of copying data, restoring it if necessary and determines the schedule of operations. They are carried out mainly outside working hours.

Our users have different levels of training. In addition, students have access to certain elements of the infrastructure during classes. Accidental deletion of individual files in such conditions is unfortunately inevitable, and we periodically encounter such a problem. In such cases, the backup system is at its height: Akronis Data Protection quickly recovers all the necessary information from backups, "said Denis Falenkov.
