2021: Modular Data Center Startup
A modular data processing center (DPC) has been launched at PJSC Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Plant. This data center will become a solid basis for the implementation of initiatives for the digital transformation of the enterprise and will increase the reliability of its management systems. The project was implemented jointly with the IT company Krok, which announced this on March 19, 2021.
MMK Modular Data Center is a specialized building for hosting server and network equipment with an area of 200 square meters. m, designed for 36 racks with a total IT load of 208 kW. This is sufficient to accommodate at least 400 high-performance data storage and processing equipment. The fibre optic cable system will provide up to 100 gigabits per second of data transfer, which will allow you to organize access channels to data center resources with maximum throughput. The center will close the needs of MMK PJSC for its own computing capacity for the coming years.
The main prerequisite of the constructions center was the continuous growth of processed volumes. information This growth is directly related to the development dynamics of the Magnitogorsk metallurgical plant, the increase in the number and complexity of automation and digitalization projects, as well as the increased requirements for ensuring fault tolerance and availability of information resources. In particular, it is planned to place IT equipment in the modular data center for projects to create a single MES system of MMK PJSC and corporate data management systems, hardware platforms for projects using industrial () technologies Internet of things IIoT , personnel positioning, machines and mechanisms in hazardous areas, machine sight mathematical modeling, advanced analytics and others.
{{quote 'It was important for us to create a data center that fully corresponds to the positions of MMK among Russian ferrous metallurgy enterprises. With its help, we plan to increase the reliability of the operation of enterprise management information systems, consolidate computing capacity and create an infrastructure basis for implementing the digitalization strategy of MMK PJSC, "commented Vadim Feoktistov, chief information technology specialist of MMK PJSC, director of MMK-Information Services LLC, commented on the launch of the data center. }}
CRIC specialists carried out design and survey work, prepared a site for construction and provided it with the necessary communications. The peculiarity of the project is that the assembly of modules, including the installation of key equipment, was almost completely carried out in Samara at the manufacturer's site. Then the modules were delivered to Magnitogorsk. This approach significantly reduced the time and scope of work at the MMK site.
To ensure high assembly accuracy of the modular design, BIM technologies were used. The modular design provides flexible scaling by consistently increasing the number of additional rack modules. Other technical solutions implemented include an air conditioning system with support for a given level of humidity in the machine halls and a dispatch system.
