2021: Enterprise Portal Creation

On March 22, 2021, the Russian developer Haulmont announced the construction of an educational marketplace for the Higher School of Economics (HSE). As a result of the project, a single point of access to HSE educational content, services and services related to the training process was created. During the operation of the portal, 39066 programs of educational disciplines were posted on it, 63 services were published. 87,732 people became users of the marketplace and the integrated Smart LMS system.

The tasks that the educational portal was supposed to solve:

  • possibility of promoting and selling educational content: additional programs as part of the expansion of Tower +, university-wide optional, inter-campus courses available to an external audience, etc.;
  • the possibility of organizing work on network partnership programmes;
  • The student's personal account, which allows him/her to aggregate critical information in one place, provides access to this information, notifications and various kinds of services necessary for teaching and solving problems arising from students.

Haulmont experts, with the support of HSE specialists, developed a service from scratch. A project plan was drawn up, a risk map was formed. During the implementation of the project, close work was carried out with representatives of departments of the university - to generate ideas on filling the system with functions and options for displaying data, formalizing requirements, participating in acceptance tests and experimental operation. Due to this, the correct use cases embedded in the system have been developed.

The project was implemented within a strictly specified time frame.

When implementing this project, an iterative approach was used, which, while finalizing solutions, gradually took into account the wishes of various user groups. As a result, a product was created within the planned time frame, which meets all the customer's wishes as much as possible. The educational marketplace is closely integrated with other systems of the university, uses HSE standards for software development. This approach made it possible to set up a seamless transition to the university's services by applying a single authorization system both in the marketplace and in the services connected to it. Students got access to simple and convenient navigation through the educational space, "says Alexander Zimovets, head of the digitalization department of education at the Higher School of Economics.

During the development process, the project was slightly modified, but Haulmont managed to adapt it to the real needs of the HSE and make the marketplace convenient and easy to use, "said Mikhail Solomonov, director of business development at Haulmont.
