2021: OEC 3D Announcement - Surgical 3D Imaging Systems for Spinal Surgery

At the end of March 2021, GE Healthcare announced the release of a new surgical imaging system capable of creating 3D and 2D images simultaneously.

According to GE Healthcare, OEC 3D offers interactive 3D imaging with accurate three-dimensional images for spinal surgeries and for orthopedic procedures. The developers added that the new system combines the advantages of familiar 2D images and highly efficient 3D scanning with simplicity and usability.

OEC 3D also offers a 19 cm x 19 cm x 19 cm field of view with high resolution and detail. An advanced reconstruction mechanism presents images in an application with special intuitive tools. In addition, the system offers image analysis and surgical evaluation capabilities. OEC 3D is also open for interaction with advanced intraoperative technologies such as navigation and robotics systems.

The OEC 3D system has undergone clinical studies in vivo and in simulated laboratory procedures. Participating physicians noted the high quality of 3D images comparable to CT results, as well as the ease of obtaining both 3D and 2D images, unlike existing methods.
