2021: Detention in connection with confession to murder of missing wife

As it became known on April 1, 2021, the chief nephrologist of St. Petersburg, Alexander Zemchenkov, confessed to the murder of his missing wife.

According to REN TV, the medical worker was detained only 11 years after the crime, since Zemchenkov's wife was considered missing.

Her relatives and colleagues last saw her on February 22, 2010. At the same time, the ICR officers did not check the recordings from the street surveillance cameras, and the search of the apartment was carried out only two months after the disappearance of the woman.

Irina Zemchenkova worked as a gynecologist in the hospital named after Snegirev. In the group dedicated to her search, dozens of women on the birthdays of their children write thanks to Dr. Zemchenkova.

As of March 31, 2021, a case has been instituted against the doctor under the article "Causing death by negligence." RIA Novosti, citing a source in law enforcement agencies, reports that by the end of March 2021 Zemchenkov is in a temporary detention center.

According to investigators, Zemchenkov killed his wife at home, then placed the body in a car and took it by car to the Leningrad region. It was noted that at that time Zemchenkov had an affair with a woman who also worked as a doctor and with whom he was married by the end of March 2021. To divorce Irina Zemchenkova, the man was "afraid of a possible scandal," writes Fontanka.

Earlier, the head of the TFR, Alexander Bastrykin, drew attention to the disappearance of the gynecologist, to whom the 92-year-old father of the murdered Irina Zemchenkova came to the reception, who had been looking for at least some leads in the case all the years. It is noted that Bastrykin was dissatisfied with the work of his subordinates in St. Petersburg.[1][2]
