2021:9 years in prison and 2.5 million rubles fine for the replacement of organs

On April 1, 2021, the Dzerzhinsky court of Volgograd sentenced Vadim Kolchenko to 9 years in a maximum security colony and a fine of 2.5 million rubles. The former chief doctor of the Volgograd Regional Pathological Bureau was found guilty of receiving a bribe on a large scale, official forgery and attempted fraud on a large scale.

According to the investigation, in January 2017, having established that the death of a pregnant Volgograd woman came from a viral infection, Vadim Kolchenko decided to artificially underestimate the statistical indicator of the so-called "maternal mortality" in the Volgograd region. Knowing that during the life of the patient the diagnosis "Autoimmune hepatitis" was made, the convict instructed the acting head of the department and the pathologist to destroy the biological samples of the woman in labor, replacing them with objects of a man whose liver was affected by hepatitis.

In addition, the main person involved in the case repeatedly for money "covered" the orderlies who provided paid services for the preparation of the bodies of deceased patients. Thus, the head physician earned 600 thousand rubles. In addition, the chief pathologist for several months awarded employees large bonuses, some of which he appropriated, reports Interfax"" with reference to the press service of the courts in the Volgograd region.

The prosecutor's office asked the court to sentence Vadim Kolchenko to 14 years in a maximum security colony, and his two accomplices to three years in a penal colony (as a result, they escaped with suspended sentences). On March 18, 2021, the defendants in the last word declared their innocence to the court and asked them to acquit.

Representatives of the victim called on the court to deprive the defendants of the right to work as doctors. The court forbade Kolchenko to hold positions in the civil service and in local governments for a period of 7 years.[1]
