2021: Masuku announcement - masks made of recyclable materials
At the end of March 2021, supermodel (and part-time philanthropist and investor) Natalya Vodyanova introduced designer masks made of fully recyclable materials. A new line called Masuku was developed in conjunction with Pentatonic, which has offices in London and Berlin.
According to the developers, the mask is able to filter the particle 94%, similar to N95 masks. Ordinary tissue and medical masks protect a person by only 40%, Pentatonic said.
Masuku One mask (by the end of March 2021, this is the only model in the line) "does not cause any harm to the planet," says Natalya Vodyanova. In her opinion, people will continue to wear masks after the pandemic - as an additional way of caring for health.
Think about this: we protect our skin, our eyes from the sun, filter water, and almost never think about the harmful effects of polluted air, "she said. |
The mask is made of recycled polymer, which is obtained from renewable raw materials. The material is also biodegradable. The mask consists of two layers - a mesh fabric on the outside, and then a soft protective tissue adjacent to the skin.
Pentatonic claims that Masuku One protects not only from coronavirus, COVID-19 but also from pathogens, allergens, and not only. Another feature of the filter - to create it, the so-called electrospinning was used. According to the company, this technology allows you to make a uniform membrane of fibers, 1000 times thinner than a human hair.
By early April 2021, the Masuku One mask is sold at $67. Later, Masuku Daily disposable masks will be released, which are also made of biodegradable materials in a few weeks. The volume of investments of Vodyanova in Pentatonic is not reported.[1]
