2021: ABB SWIFTI cabot announcement - it works at a speed of 5 meters per second

In early April 2021, ABB introduced a new industrial coboat that provides increased safety measures. A model called SWIFTI, based on the industrial robot ABB IRB 1100, provides a speed of more than five meters per second, that is, five times higher than that of other cobots of this class, and does not threaten the safety of workers.

According to the kobot manufacturer provides a payload of 4 kg and a range of up to 580 mm with the advantages of safe collaboration and ease of use. This will open up new opportunities to improve performance across a wide range of applications and allow more enterprises to automate production.

SWIFTI is aimed at performing various tasks that require the presence of people to control production. Traditionally, in this case, serious safety measures are used in the form of fences that minimize the risk of people contacting robots. However, these measures increase the cost and size of the installation, as well as reduce the speed and performance of the line, because robots have to be stopped when a person appears in the workspace.

Developed for periodic interaction between humans and robots, SWIFTI can move at high speed without endangering the surrounding workers. By integrating the laser scanner with ABB's SafeMove Collaborative security software, SWIFTI is able to detect a person's approximation and remains safe for others.

If SWIFTI detects an operator in its work area, the boot automatically slows down or stops completely. When the worker leaves, the robot restarts, returning to normal speed and performance. As an additional protection, SWIFTI uses an interaction status indicator against which the operator can visually evaluate the operation of the protective systems.[1]
