Pentagon buys equipment for rapid blood transfusion for $133 million
In early April 2021, Belmont Medical Technologies won a contract with the logistics agency of the US Department of Defense for the supply of its portable devices for rapid blood transfusion.
Belmont, based in Billerici, Massachusetts, announced a five-year contract for the indefinite supply of an unlimited amount of products from December 2020. The contract also covers the supply of military kits and related consumables and accessories. The potential maximum contract value is estimated at $133.5 million.
Belmont's main product is the Belmont Rapid Infuser RI-2 liquid heated infusion system, which uses electromagnetic induction heating to accurately control liquid temperature and flow rate during various infusion measures. In addition, the company produces a portable buddy lite system, which is powered by a battery or AC and has already passed military tests. The system can be used in ground and helicopter transport and is used worldwide in war zones, hospitals and ambulances. According to the developers, this compact system can heat up to 4.4 liters of liquid per charge. The total weight, including heater, battery and disposable items, is less than 0.73 kg.
To serve the needs of our military community is a great honor for Belmont. Military products have been a key activity of Belmont since the company was founded in the 1980s. We are very pleased that we were able to win the IDIQ contract with the defense logistics agency, "Belmont CEO Brian Ellacott said in a press release[1] |
