2021: Launch of sales of smartphones with quantum protection Galaxy Quantum 2

In mid-April 2021, Samsung and South Korean operator SK Telecom introduced the Galaxy Quantum 2, the second Samsung phone with built-in quantum cryptography technology to increase security.

Quantum 2 includes a chip developed by ID Quantique. The creators claim that it is the world's smallest quantum random number generator (QRNG) with an area of 2.5 mm square meters. it works by catching random noise using an LED and a CMOS image sensor. According to SK Telecom, the QRNG chip "allows smartphone owners not to worry about data security - the chip provides a safe and reliable way to protect themselves, generating unpredictable and pattern-free random numbers."

It is believed that hacking quantum cryptography RNG is almost impossible without long-term access to a particular device. The QRNG chip works with applications using the Android Keystore APIs, so the technology will also be available to developers. Operator SK Telecom notes the compatibility of the chip with such South Korean companies as Shinhan Bank and Standard Chartered Bank Korea, as well as with its own service packages, such as T World. The operator says that in the future the chip will work with even more services, including Samsung credit cards.

The phone itself is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus processor with an integrated Adreno 640 graphics accelerator, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of onboard memory, which can be expanded with SD cards. The 6.7-inch Quad HD + display (2560x1440 dots) with a 120Hz refresh rate has a fingerprint scanner and a 10-Mp front camera, and the main camera block includes 64 MP, 12 MP and 5 MP modules. The 4500 mAh battery supports up to 25 watts of fast charging.

So far, the release of the Galaxy Quantum 2 has been confirmed only in South Korea, where the smartphone will go on sale on April 23, 2021.[1]

2020: Samsung Galaxy A Quantum - the world's first smartphone with quantum cryptography

In mid-May 2020, Samsung introduced, according to the company, the world's first smartphone with quantum cryptography, which provides an increased level of security. A model called Samsung Galaxy A Quantum was developed in collaboration with telecommunications operator SK Telecom.

The novelty is equipped with a quantum random number generator (Quantum Random Number Generator, QRNG), developed by the Swiss company ID Quantique. According to the developers, the QRNG chip generates random numbers based on  quantum encryption technology, which allows you to create reliable unpredictable keys.

The QRNG quantum random number generator produces a random number based on the average sample after fixing the photon beam. Photons (light) emit the LED built into the chip, and they are fixed by the CMOS image sensor built into the chip. In fact, the CMOS matrix in the QRNG generator captures light noise, the level and pattern of which cannot be predicted. Therefore, numbers from noise become conditionally random. QRNG-generated encryption keys can be used, for example, to securely make contactless payments or create security certificates. All this should increase the security of the use of mobile services, assure Samsung.

As for the specifications, the Galaxy A Quantum is equipped with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 32-megapixel engraved selfie camera. The main chamber contains four modules. The hardware basis of the device is the Exynos 980 processor. There is 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of fixed memory, and the battery capacity is 4,500 mAh. The phone can connect to 5G networks.

Samsung will release the Galaxy A Quantum smartphone to the mass market on May 22, 2020. The cost of the device will be $530.[2]
