2021: Backup Data Center Completed

On April 14, 2021, TALMER, a system integrator and IT services provider, announced the completion of the construction of a backup data center (RDPC) for Metalloinvest at the Lebedinsky GOK site in Gubkin. The RDPC is designed taking into account the recommendations to ensure the level of fault tolerance of TIER III.

According to the company, in 2018, TALMER specialists built the main data center in Stary Oskol. The creation of the RDPC was a logical continuation of the project to increase and geo-distribute the IT infrastructure of Metalloinvest to ensure the uninterrupted operation of all the company's systems.

The project was implemented at the customer's site, the total area of the RDPC was more than 320 m2. The following rooms are located in the designed RDPC containment: a machine room with a system for separating "cold" and "hot" corridors into 22 racks with the possibility of scaling up to 33 racks, an electric panel, a separate room for assembling and testing equipment. The external site housed: a complete two-transformer substation, a PRAMAC diesel generator unit with a reserve capacity of up to 0.56 MW and remote capacitors of precision air conditioners.

As part of the design work, TALMER designed, supplied, installed and configured the entire engineering and technical complex of the RDPC. The power supply system is designed to ensure safe operation, energy saving and optimization of energy efficiency, monitoring, control and accounting of energy consumption. The power supply redundancy scheme provides autonomous uninterrupted operation of IT equipment for more than 4 hours. The air conditioning system is based on the Vertiv precision equipment . Integrated safety in the RDPC provides a system of intelligent access to premises and equipment. In addition, video surveillance, fire alarm and automatic gas fire extinguishing systems are installed in the data center.

The automated dispatch control system (ASDU) allows you to monitor the operation of the entire engineering infrastructure of the RDPC. ASDU has a modular structure, which provides the possibility of dispatching and control of newly installed engineering equipment. The open architecture of the system allows subsequent expansion both in the number of automation objects and in the number of functions, with the possibility of integration with other monitoring and control systems.

During the implementation of the project, the system of power inputs and external power supply was modernized by replacing high-voltage cells at the customer's main lowering substation and laying power lines with a length of more than 2.3 km. As part of improving the reliability and redundancy of the external network infrastructure of the RDPC, more than 1.8 km of fiber-optic communication lines were laid.

The installed structured cable system (SCS) allows you to connect the installed IT equipment to the customer's corporate network quickly and without significant costs. During the installation of the SCS, more than 3400 optical, copper switching cords and cable assemblies were installed, with a total length of more than 8 km. More than 15 km of low-current cable is extended to connect all DPC engineering systems.

The construction of a data center based on Lebedinsky GOK was the final step in building a fault-tolerant infrastructure to ensure the availability of enterprise IT services based on the SAP S/4 HANA platform. Hybrid infrastructure allows Metalloinvest to respond flexibly to the growing need for computing capacity, while fully ensuring the implementation of the legislation of the Russian Federation in terms of personal data.

The implementation of the RDPC was carried out in accordance with the recommendations of the independent international expert organization Uptime Institute on the level of fault tolerance TIER III. Modern engineering systems were designed and put into operation to ensure the uninterrupted operation of IT equipment, technical and physical security. Also, in accordance with the recommendations of the Uptime Institute, the operations department of the data center is organized in terms of operations, which provides 24-hour monitoring and serviceability of hosted IT equipment.
