2021: Montreal mansion under construction ignites

At the end of April 2021, it became known that the founder of the largest porn site had a house burned down. A mansion under construction in Montreal's Ahuntik-Cartierville neighborhood burned down in a fire believed to have been caused by targeted arson. The house was put up for sale for more than $19 million and is owned by Feras Antoon, one of the owners of MindGeek, a Montreal-based company known for creating pornographic site Pornhub.

The mansion housed 21 rooms, nine garages, seven bathrooms and four powder rooms. The media wrote about this building before, when Antun bought a house for $2 million and cut down 220 trees to expand it.

Police say they received a call at 11.30pm at night from Sunday to Monday (April 25) to report two people who entered the site of a building under construction on Jean-Bourdon Avenue in an unauthorized manner. When police officers arrived at the scene, the house was on fire. The flames spread from the main building of the house to the neighboring building.

Nearby homes were evacuated as a preventive measure and firefighters said no one was injured. Montreal police said investigators would analyze the remains of the building to determine the cause of the blaze.

Mireille Marouf, who lived nearby, had to spend the night at the hotel:

Peter Berlemis, who has lived in the area for 14 years, also spent the night away from home. After firefighters warned of evacuations, Berlemis went to see his daughter. Berlemis described the fire as intense, noting that "the flames reached a height of 50 meters." He was concerned if the fire would spread to his property:

Not without some damage, but at least the house itself remained intact.[1]

2022: Quit Pornhub after child porn scandal story

In late June 2022, internet company MindGeek, best known as operator Pornhub, said CEO Feras Antun and chief operating officer David Tassillo had resigned. The executives quit amid a journalistic investigation into the use of sexual videos on the resource without consent to their participants, including minors.

News of the departure of two top MindGeek managers appeared shortly after the New Yorker published an investigation article about an 8 thousand-word company. Pornhub has hosted explicit sexual videos for years without the consent of participants, including those involving minors, according to the article. According to MindGeek's policy, videos on the site are checked for the absence of minors in them, and are also moderated for the fact that the video was posted with the consent of people who appear in them. However, the New Yorker interviewed several women who found videos and photos of themselves on Pornhub that they did not consent to and spent months forcing the site to delete these materials with their participation.

{{quote 'Antun and Tassillo leave MindGeek's day-to-day operations after more than a decade in senior roles at the company. With the company strategically set for long-term growth, MindGeek's executive management will lead day-to-day operations on a temporary basis and a replacement search is underway. A change of leadership has been underway since early 2022, with Antun and Tassillo remaining shareholders in the company, said PR Manager MindGeek Ashley Hayes (Ashley Hayes). }} According to MindGeek, the company does not post content without first passing it through human and automatic moderation. In addition, according to the company, when users mark a video, it is turned off until a check is carried out. In 2020, MindGeek began requiring users to download government-issued ID to download content.

Shortly after the publication of the investigation from the New Yorker, PornHub announced a change in the company's policy. The porn site turned off the ability to freely download videos, banned downloading videos, and representatives of the resource promised to improve the moderation system. In addition, Pornhub removed most of the videos.

According to MindGeek data for June 2022, the company is starting to invest heavily in expanding creator offerings as well as additional content monetization opportunities. MindGeek claims that the company provides hundreds of thousands of models with the opportunity to earn a living and seeks to significantly expand the number of talents that MindGeek works with.

Pornhub, along with other MindGeek-based platforms such as YouPorn, is visited by 150 million people daily, according to the company.[2]
