At the end of April 2021, VimpelCom announced the creation of a data channel between the Gydan Peninsula (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug) and Paris. The Russian telecom operator is implementing this project at the request of TechnipFMC.
According to the press service of VimpelCom, the working site TechnipFMC significantly removed from the developed infrastructure, Beeline Business (a division of VimpelCom, responsible for working with corporate customers) set about building a terrestrial communication channel that will allow the rapid high-speed exchange of information with minimal delays. The Russian company called this project ambitious.

The route of the canal with a length of about 7,000 km will pass from the field on Gydan through the Yamal Peninsula, Surgut, Moscow and Frankfurt.
VimpelCom noted that the company had previously implemented a project for the development of a high-speed data transmission channel in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Air Relay Line 420 km long was built in permafrost conditions. This is the first project for the organization of ground telecommunications infrastructure in this region, in which the client's site was connected to Big Earth.
