2021: Start using VR in the production of machinery

In May 2021, Roskosmos reported on the upcoming use of virtual reality in the production of equipment. It is assumed that such technology will be used by designers for remote collaboration.

Virtual reality complexes can be used in different areas. For example, various legal entities, companies and teams of remotely distributed designers will be able to work with the same 3D model of the product, "Konstantin Shadrin, director of the digital development department of Roscosmos, told TASS.

According to him, the complex can be used to interact in the field of robotics, display multimedia content in various areas, in particular, to popularize cosmonautics.

Roscosmos begins to use virtual reality when creating technology

Earlier, the industry IT integrator of Roscosmos - the company RK-Digit - was presented with the virtual helmet of the first generation Roscosmos XR-1. In 2021, it is planned to create a second version of the device, the working name of the prototypes of the pre-production batch of device sets is Sokol-1. It will be a full-fledged virtual helmet, which corresponds to all world analogues, and surpasses them in some areas. The model being created will be almost a serial prototype, said Konstantin Shadrin.

The Roscosmos XR-2 complex consists of a helmet for PCs, two controllers, two base stations from the general positioning system of virtual reality devices, a set of switching equipment and chargers and media with the SDK.

We gradually came to release a full-fledged software and hardware complex, which includes display tools, a control system, a positioning system, and platform solutions for managing content, "Shadrin explained.

For Roscosmos, an interesting area is the use of Earth remote sensing (DHS) data in a virtual reality helmet.[1]
