Biography

2021: 7.5 years in a maximum security colony for bribes and extortion

On June 7, 2021, the Soviet District Court sentenced the former head of the Main Bureau of Medical and Social Expertise in Dagestan, Magomed Makhachev, to 7.5 years in a maximum security colony for bribes and extortion at the workplace. Also, the convict will have to pay a fine of 4.5 million rubles and will not be able to hold senior positions in state and municipal institutions for five years. In addition, seized property worth more than 20 million rubles.

According to the press service of the court, Magomed Makhachev, being the head of the Main Bureau of Medical and Social Expertise in the Republic of Dagestan, personally received bribes from the heads of the territorial medical examination bureaus in the form of money for committing illegal inaction in their favor, as well as for connivance in service in their interests, including extortion of bribes totaling 950  thousand rubles.

The case of Magomed Makhachev was separated from a criminal case being investigated against members of a criminal community consisting of officials of the Main Bureau of Medical and Social Expertise in Dagestan, doctors of medical institutions in Dagestan and other persons who received bribes in 2013-2018 for illegal establishment and extension of disability, as well as stolen funds of the Pension Fund of Russia aimed at providing social support for citizens recognized as disabled.

When sentencing, the court took into account the nature and degree of public danger of the crimes committed, as well as the identity of the defendant. Makhachev was not previously convicted, characterized positively, has a family and 10 children, including minors, is not in addiction and psychiatry accounts, has an elderly age, suffers from various diseases. During the preliminary investigation, he confessed, in connection with the desire to cooperate with the investigation, a pre-trial agreement was concluded with him.[1]
