Shutdown of 2500 Prunus Boaray 5000D IVL devices after hospital fire

In mid-June 2021, it became known that Roszdravnadzor stopped the operation of 2,500 Chinese IVL devices after a recent fire in the Ryazan Regional Clinical Hospital named after N.A. Semashko. More details here.

Hospital fire due to IVL devices, three dead

On the night of June 9, 2021, a fire occurred in the N. A. Semashko Clinical Hospital in Ryazan, as a result of which three people died due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Eight people were hospitalized in city medical organizations, one of whom is in serious condition.  A criminal case has been instituted  on the grounds of a crime under part 3 of article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Causing death by negligence").

According to Interfax in the hospital, the cause of  the fire could be a large load on the wiring of ventilators (IVL.  TASS  in law enforcement on June 9, 2021 also announced this version, but emphasized that it is premature to draw final conclusions about the reasons. Later, the governor of the Ryazan region Nikolai Lyubimov confirmed the same reason.

"A large load of IVL devices, the wiring could not stand it, caught fire," the Interfax source said.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the Ryazan Regional Clinical Hospital named after Semashko, where  the fire occurred, there were no artificial ventilation devices of domestic production. According to Nikolai Lyubimov, the medical equipment ignited in the hospital was of foreign production.

It is known that the company Medtehnika OJSC was engaged in servicing IVL devices in the Ryazan hospital Ryazan. The company's management began checking on the fact of the ignition of one of the IVL devices , said  company director Sergei Malikov.

According to him, the functionality of IVL devices varies significantly depending on the class. At the same time, the director of the company did not specify when the last time preventive work was carried out with the equipment, explaining that the organization performs service "under contract."^[1]
