2021: 3.5 years in prison for accidental puncture of a lung patient
On June 15, 2021, the Meshchansky court of Moscow sentenced plastic surgeon Sergei Morozov to 3.5 years in a general regime colony for accidentally punctured a lung patient. The doctor was found guilty of committing a crime under paragraph "c" of Part 2 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code (the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in negligence causing grievous bodily harm), the press service of the Main Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Moscow.
According to the investigation, Sergey Morozov, being a plastic surgeon at the Medlange private medical clinic located in the center of Moscow, on April 8, 2018, during plastic surgery for rhinoplasty, injured the patient's lung when taking a rib graft, which caused the girl serious harm to health.
According to the injured girl, she came to the surgeon to make a slight correction of the nose. However, after the operation, the patient woke up in intensive care, where she spent several days in a medical coma. As it turned out, in order to carry out rhinoplasty, the doctor had to take the rib cartilage, but during the procedure he accidentally pierced the patient's lung.
It is noted that the investigation carried out a large amount of investigative and procedural actions, interrogated more than 50 people, conducted searches in a private clinic and analyzed medical documentation. The conclusions of numerous complex forensic examinations, together with other evidence, completely expose Morozov of the crime committed, noted in the UK.
In addition, the victim requested compensation in the amount of 10 million rubles. The court decided to recover 360 thousand rubles as material damage, moral - 500 thousand rubles. The injured party considers the sentence to be fair, but plans to appeal the verdict in terms of a civil lawsuit.[1][2]
