2021: Implementation of a program to optimize production planning at the St. Petersburg plant
St. Petersburg plant "Sveza" on June 16, 2021 announced that it was introducing a special computer program to improve production planning and reduce the raw material consumption factor. It calculates how much veneer and what varieties need to be produced to fulfill incoming orders, and also forms optimal maps for cutting plywood sheets when manufacturing products of non-standard formats.
The program is based on linear algebra methods. The previous planning system did not take into account the balance of veneer available at the mill in the grade section. This led to a periodic shortage or excess of individual varieties.
In addition, the program allows you to generate optimal maps for cutting plywood sheets for the production of products of non-standard formats. Before its introduction, maps were calculated manually. This resulted in excessive formation of plywood cutting (so-called strip) and, therefore, an increased raw material consumption ratio. The utility compares all orders coming to the mill and generates optimal cutting maps based on mathematical modeling. This minimizes the number of trimmings.
St. Petersburg Plant is the flagship of the production of castomized products at Svez. More than half of the plywood he produces is made according to individual customer orders. As a rule, this is plywood of non-standard dimensions and geometric shapes. In this regard, planning with mathematical precision is particularly important for both cost-effectiveness and responsible environmental management and natural resource management.
