2021: Migration to Mail.ru Cloud Solutions Platform

KGK Global improved database reliability through seamless migration to the Mail.ru Cloud Solutions (MCS) platform, which the latter announced on June 22, 2021. Moving to the cloud helped the engineering company completely get rid of the problems with the availability of online services that regularly arose in the old infrastructure.

Since 2006, KGK Global has been designing equipment ON for transport companies, in particular online services for. satellite monitoring transport Over time, it became clear that the architecture and development tools used in KGK Global before were not suitable for solving current client problems. It was necessary to completely update, and with software it server support - several bases could not MySQL cope with the growing load. It was decided to migrate to the cloud.

When choosing a technology partner, KGK Global took into account the need to comply with the FZ-152 and estimated the level of cloud stability, communication channel capacity, scalability, expected cost of operation and quality of technical support. The architecture of PaaS services from Mail.ru Cloud Solutions, as well as communication channels, fully met the standards of the engineering company.

As an storages analytical DBMS ClickHouse as, cloud service which allows you to work with large volumes of structured data in real time, was chosen. Migration was carried out in several stages. On the first, the frontend was moved to the cloud, on the second - the backend. They were moved to the GitLab cloud, the Docker Swarm cluster, test stands. In the third phase, the company moved six terabytes of data to the cloud, simultaneously changing the application architecture: moving storage from the old MySQL database to the cloud ClickHouse and the business logic database from the MySQL to the cloud instance with Percona MySQL. Finally, the last stage was transferred to the cloud. telephony Thanks to this approach, KGK Global was able to migrate to the cloud infrastructure without disrupting online services.

The partnership with MCS allowed KGK Global to improve the reliability and quality of services for customers. Previously, KGK Global used its own servers, which were located first directly in the company, and then in the data center. After the migration to the cloud, the reliability of the company's services increased by 3 times, while maintaining the cost of IT infrastructure content.

The finished pre-built PaaS solution from Mail.ru Cloud Solutions covered 90% of our requirements - it did not even require serious improvements in the architectural part. The relocation process was completed without downtime and took less than five months with only one task-focused employee, despite the large amount of data. By improving reliability, our customers can stably receive data in real time.
