2021: Ability to mask confidential areas with AI

On June 28, 2021, Axis Communications released an updated version of the AXIS Live Privacy Shield application, designed to mask moving objects, ensure privacy and effective real-time monitoring. Now, in addition to masking based on the movement of objects, the application using artificial intelligence can mask confidential areas in the premises and on the street. AXIS Live Privacy Shield complements remote video monitoring systems in settings that require privacy and privacy protection: hospitals, nursing homes, manufacturing facilities, hotels, schools, offices, and stores.

AXIS Live Privacy Shield analyzes video in real time for shapes in a frame and now supports two ways to protect privacy. The first is motion-based masking, which allows you to hide all moving objects in a background. The feature meets the most stringent privacy requirements and is suitable for observation in rooms with good stable lighting.

Technology using artificial intelligence masks people (moving or stationary) or the background. It is most effective for video surveillance at short distances both outdoors and indoors, works in conditions of changing or weak lighting. Motion-based masking is supported by all application-compatible cameras, and AI-based function is supported by separate devices with a deep learning data processing module (DLPU).

Both methods of dynamic masking of confidential zones allow you to apply either color or tiling, as well as define "include" and "exclude" zones. In other words, moving people and objects in a frame can be displayed as transparent shapes. In addition, the universal AXIS Live Privacy Shield application allows users to combine it with static masking of confidential zones and configure the system to simultaneously broadcast video streams with and without masking. This function is particularly useful in situations where an incident or crime needs to be investigated.
