2021: Start selling at $310
At the end of June 2021, sales of DDR5 memory for personal computers began. Its cost was significantly higher than expected. So, the company TeamGroup sells a set of two RAM modules at 16 GB for $310, while it originally talked about a price of $400.
This is not about the fastest DDR5-4800 MHz memory (CL40-40-40-77), but nevertheless it is a necessary element of next-generation platforms, such as Intel Alder Lake (Core 12). This memory in large online stores, like Amazon and Newegg, was sold out in just a day. This, combined with a shortage of computer components and growing demand for laptops, makes it strange for the manufacturer to sell memory at a reduced price.
Modules of random access memory TeamGroup are characterized with a capacity up to 38.4 Gbytes / with against 25.6 Gbytes / with at the most top DDR4. The dimensions of each module are 134x32 mm. Memory operation requires a voltage of 1.1 V, and the formula of delays (timings) for modules is 40-40-40-77.
We will have to wait for the fourth quarter of 2021, when the first Inter Alder Lake S platforms supporting DDR5 RAM will enter the market. Only then will users and specialists have a chance to test new memory modules, including from TeamGroup.
Previously, there was information that the releases of new processors could be postponed to the first half of 2022. This depends on whether manufacturers cope with the shortage of chips and whether the corresponding infrastructure in the form of new motherboards will be ready to launch new processors. On the other hand, manufacturers of basic equipment have been preparing for the launch of DDR5 since the beginning of 2020 - not only TeamGroup, but also Samsung, Hynix and others were actively working on this.[1]
