2022: Obtaining a certificate of airworthiness in Slovakia
At the end of January 2022, it became known that a hybrid vehicle of the auto-aircraft type called AirCar received an official certificate of airworthiness from the Slovak Transport Administration. The certificate was obtained in the category of experimental aircraft and is valid throughout the European Union. This is the first time that Slovakia has allowed the use of flying cars.
AirCar is a two-seater car with four wheels and a fossil fuel engine, but the car has retractable wings that, when extended, allow it to take off from the runway like an aircraft. AirCar was created by Klein Vision Professor Stefan Klein. In order to take off, the hybrid vehicle must reach a speed of 120 km per hour on the runway, and in flight the car can reach an altitude of 2.4 thousand km. and a maximum speed of 160 km per hour. The range is about 385 km. The manufacturer of the car, Klein Vision, has already moved to the next stage, which implies the creation of a serial model of AirCar, which the company expects to certify in 2023.
Certification AirCar opens the door to mass production of very efficient flying cars. This is an official and final confirmation of our ability to forever change the journey over medium distances. Since the vehicle can drive into and out of the runway, it can solve the problem of transport in Europe, "said inventor AirCar Stefan Klein. |
In order to obtain a certificate in Slovakia from the Slovak Transport Authority, the hybrid vehicle AirCar passed 70 hours of flight tests, which included more than 200 take-offs and landings. As noted in the department, the transition from car to plane takes 2 minutes 15 seconds. Complex flight tests included a full range of flight maneuvers and characteristics and demonstrated amazing static and dynamic stability in aircraft mode.[1]
2021: Inter-city flight
On July 1, 2021, it became known that the flying car AirCar made an inter-city flight - it turns from a car into a plane in two minutes.
AirCar turns from a car into a plane in two minutes 15 seconds, after which it can take off from a small runway with two people on board. According to Professor Klein, the AirCar is capable of flying almost 1000 kilometers (600 miles) at an average speed of 170 kilometers per hour at an altitude of up to 2.5 kilometers.
Representatives of Klein Vision said that it took about two years to develop and create a flying car and "less than two million euros." The company is going to occupy at least part of the global market for small private aircraft and air taxis. In the USA alone, up to 40 thousand such devices can be ordered annually.
