In July 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation announced a tender for a marketing study of "domestic and global industries of hardware and software complexes for artificial intelligence." The department is ready to pay up to 70 million rubles to the winner of the competition.
According to RBC with reference to materials published on the public procurement website, the project executor will have to:
- analyze the existing and promising tasks of artificial intelligence;
- to analyze the leading foreign producers of hardware and software systems and platforms for the solution of the problems of artificial intelligence including existing and planned to release of platforms of such producers as Nvidia ARM, Qualcomm and Intel and also decisions Google, and and Amazon Facebook Alibaba development; startups
- identify Russian developers of hardware solutions for artificial intelligence that have a high competitive potential in the world market, including analyzing Russian developments of neuromorphic (the architecture of such a chip is based on the principles of the human brain) and tensor processors;
- develop proposals for the development of the domestic industry of hardware and software complexes for artificial intelligence purposes: to reduce regulatory legal and administrative barriers, etc.;
- Develop a roadmap to support at least three Russian software and hardware systems for AI tasks.
The tender documentation indicates that the study is carried out according to the federal project "Artificial Intelligence" of the national program "Digital Economy." The Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Digital Affairs are responsible for its implementation. By 2024, at least three niche hardware and software complexes for artificial intelligence purposes should be developed in Russia under this project.[1]
