2021: As part of a comprehensive, automated 5G network management solution

On July 15, 2021, Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced a 5G software solution that provides integrated automated management for the company's existing 5G portfolio. It includes HPE 5G Automated Assurance and other 5G capabilities for HPE Service Director, a combination of which optimizes 5G network management and deployment risks by fully automating management and feedback control processes. This software tracks and coordinates network functions, infrastructure, segments, and services, automatically responding to detected problems and ensuring continuity of service. The software is pre-integrated with open 5G HPE solutions, including HPE 5G Core Stack, uses open source technologies and offers open APIs to support multivendor systems.

According to the company, 5G technology optimizes throughput, response time, and the number of devices and services supported. 5G standards have been developed to work with open cloud platforms that use disparate software and hardware components from different vendors, resulting in operators deploying 5G networks needing to manage multiple network segments, thousands of virtual machines, and hundreds of virtual and container network functions (VNF/CNF) across thousands of sites.

HPE software reduces the risk of 5G multivendor networks by enabling automation of many processes, from infrastructure management to network segmentation, using open and secure software components. Operators can deploy a 5G network automation solution in accordance with ETSI and 3GPP telecommunications standards, combining automatic quality of service control with automatic orchestration to build a fully automatic feedback control system. When deploying network functions, segments, and services, the monitoring system detects service degradation and automatically starts recovery, scaling, or optimization processes.

The integrated 5G HPE automation solution is designed for multiple 5G use cases and includes technologies such as intent-based orchestration, quality of service systems algorithms artificial intelligence with and, automation of the process machine learning of adapting CNF/(VNF onboarding) network functions, automatic network segment management and flexible infrastructure management. The software solution is part software of the HPE 5G portfolio along with the previously announced HPE 5G Core Stack, HPE Open RAN Solution Stack and solutions for HPE peripheral computing Edge Orchestrator.

The software is reintegrated into the HPE 5G Core Stack solution and is also integrated with the network features (NF) delivered by HPE and company partners. Integration and testing takes place in the HPE 5G laboratory in Fort Collins, Colorado.

To take full advantage of 5G capabilities and network segmentation, operators need to move to open, cloud-based principles embedded in industry standards. In line with this approach, HPE has developed integrated automation capabilities that reduce risk when deploying 5G networks.

The presented solution offers a business-oriented network orchestra and includes 5G capabilities for HPE Service Director. Moreover, it ensures the proper level of network reliability through artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies thanks to the HPE 5G Automated Assurance service.

The HPE Service Director Orchestrator allows you to manage complex 5G infrastructure and services using the decomposition of complex services into simple services. The solution uses business-oriented intent-based modeling and provides a service lifecycle in hybrid environments, allowing operators to take a DevOps approach. 5G features in HPE Service Director provide automatic profile-based 5G network segments and fully automated network segment lifecycle management across all domains. The solution also includes HPE NFV Director, a data center resource management solution that complies with ETSI recommendations, including support for basic scenarios for network (VNF) and container-based functions (CNF).

HPE 5G Automated Assurance enables telecom operators to automate network discovery, forecasting, and troubleshooting with an intelligent, 5G-specific data-driven management tool and machine learning technologies. Using bigdata technology, HPE 5G Automated Assurance allows you to track anomalies or problem patterns, and initiate appropriate corrective actions. The solution allows you to interact with systems of different suppliers using the embedded integration capabilities.

Two automation solutions are complemented by the HPE Resource Aggregator for Open Distributed Infrastructure Management, which optimizes the management of telecommunications-grade computing infrastructure at thousands of sites.

5G capabilities for HPE Service Director and HPE 5G Automated Assurance are preparing for release in October 2021.
