2021: Siemens enters ship CAD market by buying business from Sener Engineering
On July 21, 2021, it became known that Siemens Digital Industries Software agreed to acquire the Foran software business from the Spanish engineering and technology company Sener Engineering. The purchase of assets for Siemens is for the sole purpose of expanding its marine design and design capabilities.
The financial terms of the transaction, which also includes joining the Foran team and its client portfolio, have not been disclosed.
Foran is software that combines CAD computer aided design (CAE), computer aided engineering (CAE), and computer aided manufacturing (CAM). It is used to assist in the design, design and design of marine structures and vessels.
This business will be included in the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio after the completion of the acquisition, this will take place in the 4th quarter of 2021.
This integration will provide a comprehensive portfolio of software and services related to all aspects of the ship's lifecycle, including conceptual design, manufacturing and operation, as well as optimized lifecycle management of the entire service.
With the goal of sustainable development, Siemens aims to support customers working in the field of maritime transport in applying the digital twin approach in the design and construction of various types of ships.
CEO and President of Siemens Digital Industries Software, Tony Hemmelgarn said:
Foran's acquisition improves our marine digital twin project by adding superior capabilities to our integrated ship design and engineering digital streams solution. By adding Foran's extensive tools to the Xcelerator portfolio and using the team's industry expertise, we will be able to offer commercial and military shipbuilding customers better control over the ship design and production process when moving to Shipyard 4.0. |
Sener Managing Director, Gabriel Alarcon said:
With more than 150 customers in the form of shipyards and design offices in 40 countries, Foran technology provides a strong position for Siemens to better support customers throughout the marine industry. At the same time, the global reach of Siemens and the integration of the Foran team into Siemens ensures the continuity and improvement of the services provided to current Foran customers with a strategic vision for further development. |
