2021: Opening of the first data center in Russia on ARM processors

In July 2021 Huawei , it announced the creation, according to the company, of the first in, Russia data center built on the basis of - ARM processors. The data center was built by the company's intelligent computing systems division and opened in its Moscow office.

According to Huawei, the new data center received data servers Taishan that are built on the ARM computing architecture. Other technical parameters of the site are not disclosed.

The data center began to be used by the Huawei Research Institute and the scientific and academic community of Russia to optimize open source solutions and supercomputer computing. In particular, by July 23, 2021, the computing cluster is working with more than 20 partners and customers of the company in the Russian Federation.

According to Nikita Solodun, an expert on Huawei intelligent computing systems in Russia, thanks to the data center, the company's partners and customers will be able to use their software products to join the construction of a new open A + K ecosystem.

If before the commissioning of this data center, we were forced to spend resources on the delivery of equipment and the deployment of servers on customer sites, now it is possible to provide both remote and local access to equipment almost without time delays, "he stressed.

Liu Yu, Director of the Huawei Intelligent Computing Department in Russia, says that the powerful ARM cores have proven themselves in tasks with numerous parallel computing, as well as big data, virtualization systems, databases, storage systems, etc. Tests have shown that in a number of scenarios ARM servers are able to fully compete with solutions based on the x86 architecture, he said.^[1]
