2021: Start replacing network equipment on a fixed network

On August 6, 2021, MTS announced the start of replacing network equipment with a fixed network in the Moscow region, which will provide instant processing of customer traffic growing at a record pace.

By the end of 2021, MTS will install on a fixed communication network built and maintained by a subsidiary of MGTS a complex of top-class routers BRAS (Broadband Remote Access Server) responsible for managing client traffic. The number of routers will almost double - up to 38, each performance will triple. This will minimize page loading time, as well as delay in transmitting data packages, which is critical for online gaming and streaming enthusiasts.

The volume of transmitted data in the MTS fixed network in the Moscow region for 2020 increased by a record 40% against the background of 20-30% in previous years. At the same time, traffic to gaming sites and platforms and streaming video services grows three times faster than to resources with another type of content, and in August 2021 it accounts for almost 70% in total. In 2021, interest in video and gaming remains at a high level. The average Internet connection speed for the year increased by 10% and amounted to 264 Mbps, the speed of Internet traffic during peak load hours in the MTS network increased by 45% to 2.1 Tbit/s.

According to our forecasts, the growth of Internet traffic in the fixed network of the Moscow region will be at least 30% by the end of 2021 and will remain at this level in the coming years, "said Vladislav Medvedev, technical director of the MTS Moscow region. - Given the popularity of video content and the increasing spread of AR and VR technologies, we are actively investing in the advanced development of the network and updating of both network and subscriber equipment. Thanks to this, our subscribers in the Moscow region are among the first to access the latest digital services, without restricting themselves on the Internet,
