In Russia, created a radar that "sees" American F-35 stealths

Customers: Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation

State and social structures

Project date: 2021/08

In early August 2021, it became known about the beginning of the use by the Aerospace Forces (VKS) of Russia of radars capable of detecting "stealth" aircraft in the sky, including the American F-35 Lightning II.

The 104J6 meter range radar consists of several remote locators that will connect wirelessly through the "military Internet." In fact, the new radar creates a three-dimensional 3D model of airspace. Therefore, 104J6 systems not only form a continuous detection zone, but also "see" any aircraft, including hypersonic and small-sized drones. A novelty is especially effective against aircraft made using stealth technology.

As sources in the military department told Izvestia, samples of 104Zh6 radar with active phased arrays entered pilot operation in several military districts. As a result of the work, a decision will be made on the need to purchase such radar systems.

It is planned to check the tactical and technical characteristics of the novelty, as well as the effectiveness of its interaction with modern air defense and combat aircraft.

Earlier, the military department reported that by the end of the year, one 104Zh6 will arrive for test operation in the 14th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Central Military District. Modern methods of signal processing in it managed to achieve not only high reliability of target detection, but also accuracy of determining their coordinates.

The meter range is considered the most effective for detecting aircraft made using stealth technologies, military expert Viktor Murakhovsky told Izvestia.

All such stealthy products are designed to counter radar equipment operating in decimeter and centimeter ranges - a meter for them is a deadly danger, "the expert noted.[1]
