How Rosseti use drones

Customers: Lenenergo

Project date: 2021/08

In mid-August 2021, Rosseti announced the beginning of the use of drones in the Leningrad Region. Drones are used on overhead power lines of the most massive voltage class - 6-10 kV - during emergency recovery operations.

According to the press service of Rosseti Lenenergo, the introduction of unmanned aerial vehicles allows you to quickly survey overhead power lines for possible risks, including after storms and other adverse weather events, as well as determine the locations of damage, conduct their assessment, and transmit information to dispatch services.

"Rosseti" use drones on overhead power lines during emergency recovery operations

According to the head of the distribution networks department of Rosseti Lenenergo PJSC Sergey Vinogradov, the use of drones is especially relevant in inaccessible marshy terrain, as well as in dense forests, where it is difficult to get to ground equipment. The company will use UAVs of aircraft and rotary types, the flight altitude of which can reach 80 m, and the range - 60 km. The drone supplier for Rosseti is not called.

Rosseti uses UAVs not only in the Leningrad region, but also in other regions of the Russian Federation. Drones are used in technical violations, to assess the state of security zones and individual power lines, to control the clearance and expansion of clearances, the state of the wire, as well as to build 3D models of the infrastructure.

The introduction of UAVs is one of the areas of the company's concept "Digital Transformation - 2030." Scaling the use of unmanned equipment is aimed at increasing the speed of service and the efficiency of operation of overhead lines. In addition, the monitoring of APLs through UAVs is one of the areas of cooperation in the diversification and expansion of the APC competencies.[1]
