2021: Tropospheric Communications Pilot Area Plan

Roselectronika Holding of Rostec State Corporation and ER-Telecom Holding JSC organize a pilot zone using tropospheric communication stations in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. This was announced by ER-Telecom Holding on August 24, 2021. The corresponding agreement was signed by Konstantin Solodukhin, Deputy General Director for Business Development of the United Instrument-Making Corporation (managing company of the Roselectronika holding) and Vitaly Klishin, Director for Federal Projects at B2G of ER-Telecom Holding JSC.

As part of the agreement, a pilot zone will be deployed using the Groza digital noise-proof tropospheric communication stations manufactured by the Radio Communications NPP (part of Roselectronics) in the interests of ER-Telecom subscribers to provide communication to inaccessible areas of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

The Groza station is designed to organize wireless broadband communication in mountainous, inaccessible and sparsely populated areas, along highways and railways, as well as at remote industrial facilities. Solutions based on tropospheric communications have good potential in the civilian market, since their use does not require a lease of a satellite channel, which means they are a more economically profitable alternative when organizing communications, "said Konstantin Solodukhin, deputy general director of the United Instrument-Making Corporation (the management company of the Roselectronika holding).

Civilian tropospheric communication stations "Thunderstorm" allow to provide communication within a radius of 210 km. The equipment is capable of transmitting data at a speed of up to 25 Mbps in tropospheric communication mode and up to 155 Mbps in radio relay communication mode.

ER-Telecom participates in the implementation of the national program "Digital Economy of Russia," connecting socially significant objects on the territory of our country to the Internet. The use of domestic technologies and electronics is a key element in ensuring the sustainability of national critical infrastructure. The signed agreement is an important step towards the development of promising space, satellite, low-orbit technologies, as well as solutions for data transfer using the lower atmosphere, "said Andrei Kuzyaev, president of ER-Telecom Holding JSC.

The equipment uses data transmission technology based on the reflection of a signal from the troposphere - the lower layer of the atmosphere. A minimum of two transceiver stations are required to establish a tropospheric link. An antenna with a diameter of 150 cm can be located on the roof of the building, a mobile mast or a tripod. The product also includes a high-speed digital tropospheric communication modem based on neural networks. Due to built-in algorithms for information processing, the equipment is able to "learn" during operation and extract a useful signal from background noise.

The organization of production of Groza stations is implemented with the attraction of a preferential loan of 335 million rubles from the Industrial Development Fund (Group ВЭБ.РФ).
